Reaction

Have you ever been driving along and someone honks at you? Or, you're on the phone with a customer service representative and they bark off a rude comment? The few times I've come across this, I've usually been offended and it eats at me. Well, yesterday I received one of "those" comments, but I have to say I had a different reaction.

I had to wake Chyler up a little early yesterday so we could get ready for my doctor's appointment. After the appointment, we ran from a play date to Hobby Lobby and then to Wal-mart. When we arrived at Wal-mart, I noticed that Chyler had fallen asleep in her car seat. I only needed to run in real quick, so I quickly unbuckled her and carried her in with her head on my shoulder. When I got to the aisle I needed, I quickly spent 10 seconds looking around and then grabbed what I needed. When I turned to leave, a lady looked at me in disgust and said, "You're making it hard to get around." At first, I couldn't believe she was talking to me. Here I am 35 weeks pregnant, carrying a sleeping 1 year old, and taking a reasonable amount of time to look around. It just blew my mind that she was in such a rush that she couldn't walk around, say "excuse me," or wait patiently. On the drive home, I replayed the situation out in my head. By the time I got home, I realized I wasn't offended in the least bit. Instead, I was sad; sad for whatever made that woman respond so negatively.

Gratefully, since having Chyler and being pregnant, I've had more positive experiences than bad ones. I never knew that holding open the door would mean so much. (But it does!) Seeing other people serve me in these little ways has inspired me to be more patient and help other young moms when I can.

How rude! and sad that someone feels the need to act like that. Toting around a squirmy baby has definitely helped me increase my appreciation for little acts of kindness, and want to return them. Sometimes someone saying "let me get that door" or "I'll take that cart back for you" can really make the day.
